Tomorrow.
Tomorrow is an interesting thing.
When used properly, tomorrow is a new day, a fresh start, the clean canvas. Tomorrow often holds the anticipatory excitement of magic ~Christmas morning, your scheduled flight to the beach for a vacation you can’t wait to begin, the arrival of a letter that keeps you connected to another in a way that email never could~. Tomorrow allows us to make plans, envision beyond this moment, and live into a future that we create. Tomorrow is a gift. Every single tomorrow that we get to be here, alive, making a difference, being mommies and daddies, friends, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, neighbors….that means something. I would be willing to bet that every single one of us has lost someone that we loved so deeply, we would give about anything for one more tomorrow. Tomorrow is a reminder of all that we have to be thankful for, and serves as platform for laying the foundation of our gratitude.
Tomorrow is an interesting thing.
Tomorrow, on the flip side, can rob you of your vivacity and leave you lethargic and anxious and frustrated. Tomorrow, I will start my diet. Tomorrow I will start exercising. Tomorrow I will deal with the elephant in the room. Tomorrow I will make a list, and accomplish something when I get to cross those pesky things off that list that I have “needed” to do for who knows how long. Tomorrow I will make a list of all my lists. Tomorrow I will do the things I need to do to grow my business and support my team, and learn something on purpose. Tomorrow. Ugh.
This has been and continues to be the monster in my closet. This is where procrastination lives. This is the absence of power, vitality, and action. This is the vehicle to waking up and thinking, how is it possible that another week has gone by, another month has come and gone, and I am still in the same place I was last week, month, year, whatever. How many times have we started the week, completely clear about how it was going to look-whether it was going back to the gym and working out 3 days that week, or planning meals so we weren’t making “last minute, let’s just get take-out decisions”, or this was going to be the week we get caught up on all that we have been ignoring. How many times have we started a new month, with absolute conviction that this was going to be the one where we hit that next goal in our business, really, this month is it…no more messing around. At the end of the week, you feel slightly irritated with yourself, a bit in awe that the week is over….BUT, next week you will start fresh, right? At the end of the month, you find yourself uneasy, and rather traumatized that yet another month has gone by….and this, my friends, is how life ends up happening to you rather than life being designed by you.
So, wow. Today is February 10th. How did that happen? Today is a good day. Today I celebrate my beautiful Grammy turning 87 years old, and how much light and love she brings to this world, and my prayer is for many more tomorrows with her.
My invitation to all of us is this…. Pick something ~ anything from any area of your life, which would truly madly deeply make a difference, and do that thing TODAY. Whether that means scheduling that Dr.’s appointment you have been putting off for months, or reaching out and connecting with an old friend who you have let slip out of your life, or make 25 phone calls today to people who need an opportunity to change their “circumstances” and take back control of their life- don’t simply elect to choose something that is “easy” so that you can tell yourself you did something, single out something significant to you, your life, your future….and what you will do with that one thing today, will make your tomorrow what it is meant to be-bright, shiny, amazing & life-affirming. Let’s take this journey back from tomorrow ~ together.
